Our journey began when our founder, Robert Fetz, recognized a need for additional plumbing services in our community during a period of rapid growth. Our Story

The Fetz family has lived in and served the Urbana community for over 135 years. Our story began in the late 1880's when George Fetz, a baker born in western Germany, his wife Margaritha, along with their children, found their way to Urbana. Their son George, an energetic entrepreneur, owned and operated a dairy farm, a grocery store, and a moving company at various points in his life. He owned one of Urbana's first cement mixer trucks which was used to install sidewalks on Scioto Street in the early 1900's.

George's entrepreneurial spirit, business wisdom, and solid work ethic were passed onto the next generation. His son Robert, after identifying a need for additional plumbing services during one of the county's growth periods, started Fetz Plumbing and Heating out of his garage on East Church Street. In the 1970's, his son Dix expanded the service capacity of the company by adding air conditioning. Throughout the past sixty years, the company has been passed down from one generation to the next and has expanded from a one-person operation to a team of eight.

Rob, the founder's grandson, has owned and operated the business with the significant support and skill of his wife Sheila since 1991. The legacy has continued to the fourth generation when Derrick Fetz joined the company as Director of Operations. Today, we are proud to serve residential and commercial customers in Urbana, Mechanicsburg, St. Paris, West Liberty, other towns and rural areas of Champaign County and nearby counties. We are small enough to know each customer by name and large enough to handle major and complex jobs.
